Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
